Ethel Lyons Nicholls, 85, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Gulf Healthcare Center in Port Arthur. She was born on April 23, 1929 in Vinton, Louisiana to Rollie and Corine Wilfer Lyons. She married Albert E. Nicholls on August 28, 1948. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1984. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Donahoe and husband Ronny of Champaign, Illinois; grandchildren, Michael Donahoe of Champaign, Illinois, Jennifer Mills and husband Michael of Hartland, Wisconsin, and Christopher Donahoe and wife Cara of Burlington, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Calleigh, and Brayden Mills of Hartland, Wisconsin, and Taylor, Austin, and Jackson Donahoe of Burlington, Iowa. She is also survived by her sisters, Lena Rich of Groves and Mona Coleman of Bridge City; and several nieces and nephews. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Albert E. Nicholls; parents Rollie and Corine Lyons; sisters Rosalie Besse and husband George, and Stella Pyles; and brothers Vernon Lyons and R. A. Lyons. A special thank you to her nephew, Stephen Besse, of Bridge City for his companionship and care. Ethel loved him dearly. Visitation will be on Friday, 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Her funeral service will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. Ethel was a long time resident of the Groves area. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and visiting with family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Groves and had worked for 10 years at Hancock Fabrics. She took pleasure in decorating her home for the different holidays. She also enjoyed traveling often to visit her daughter and grandchildren for holidays and special occasions. Ethel was very special and she was loved deeply by her family and close friends. She will be missed always.
