Rollin E. Gattis Rollin Gattis, 88, of Groves, Texas passed away at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas on Monday, October 20, 2014. Rollin was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on May 31, 1926 to Emma and James Gattis. He was two years older than his brother, Robert D. "Bud" Gattis. He has been a resident of the Groves area for most of his life. He retired from the Texaco Chemical Company (formerly Neches Butane Products Co.) in 1983 after 35 years where he worked as the Senior Supervising Engineer in the Design Engineering and construction department. Mr. Gattis was also a WWII veteran where he served in the U. S. Army as a corporal in the accounting and payroll department at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He was a graduate Civil Engineer from Lamar University in Beaumont, a Registered Professional Engineer and a Public Land Surveyor. He was also proprietor of the Main Avenue Store for many years, which his father owned before him. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Groves, where he had many dear and special friends. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Rollin is preceded in death by his beloved son Gary in 2010 and the mother of his children, Paige Green Gattis in 1993. He is survived by his daughter, Drina Gattis Brunsting and husband, Carl of Houston, granddaughter, Marta Paige Brunsting Huntsman and husband, Ryan of Magnolia, grandson, Greg Gattis and wife Tiffany of Seabrook, granddaughter, Briana Gattis of Waxahachie and a great-granddaughter, Haley Marie Huntsman of Magnolia, brother, R.D. "Bud" Gattis of Cisco, Texas, cousins, Lester Swanson of Austin, Texas and numerous other cousins, daughter-in-law, Susan Gattis Pierson and former wife and dear friend, Ruby Flurry, all of whom loved him with all of their hearts, and will miss him terribly. He filled our hearts with gladness and was a kind, generous and thoughtful man to his family and many, many friends. He was a joy to be around. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Southeast Texas Veterans Group or First United Methodist Church of Groves.
