Laura Dell Knowles, age 82 of Port Arthur, TX passed away on November 18, 2014 at home with her family at her side. The Family will receive friends from 5pm to 8 pm Friday November 21 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home Groves. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday November 22, at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Kevin Badeaux officiating, Burial will be at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. Laura was born in LaPlatte, Missouri to the late George and Delphia Campbell. She moved to Port Arthur at an early age. She met her lifelong sweetheart and married in 1950 ; they were married for 60 years. She worked as a telephone operator at Southwestern Bell; as administrator at Lynn's Sak-N-Pak; in the main office of both Clayton Thompson and Davis-Knowles Funeral Homes. She was co-owner of Knowles Ambulance Service from 1956 to 1974 and was the first woman ambulance driver in Port Arthur. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Judge John (Johnny) W. Knowles; brothers Robert and Wilford Campbell; Sisters Louise Fletcher and Rose Searl; and daughter-in-law, Kerry Knowles. She is survived by her loving children Laura Maxwell of Port Arthur; Bobby Knowles and his wife Christy of Katy, TX; Kevin Knowles and wife Lauryi from Knoxville, TN ; and Jeannie and her husband Billy Beresky of Port Arthur. She is also survived by her grandchildren Paul Maxwell and Crystal Biscamp; John Maxwell; Jessica and JC Sanchez; Amy Maxwell; Nathen and Ingrid Knowles; Ricky and Kristen Knowles; Rachel Knowles and Shane Marshall; Rebecca Guerrero; James Knowles and Candi Spell; Barbara and Scott Taylor; Cheryl and Brandon Adams; Jon and Amy Knowles; Garrett and Jessica Robbins; Shonda Robbins and by her great grand-children: Alisa, Sheelove, Tacey, Sophia, Jaiden, Brooklyn, Riley, Kaydence, Adalee, Ava, Journey and Everly along with numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Paul Maxwell, John Maxwell, Nathen Knowles, Ricky Knowles, James Knowles, Jon Knowles and Garrett Robbins. The Knowles family would like to thank the many friends and family who have supported them during Laura's illness, especially: Christus St. Mary Hospital, Dr. Margaret Lang Williams, Southeast Texas Hospice, Dubuis Hospital, Sue and Michael Landry, Bobby and Roseann Quebedeaux, Larry and Mary Kay Eaves and Dorothy Scott.
