Our beloved husband, father, Papa, and friend, Gene A. Phillips, 91, was called home for Christmas on 12/22/2014 after a brief illness. Mr. Phillips, a life long resident of the Port Arthur area, was born on 11/20/1923, as the youngest child of Arthur Edgar Phillips and Ida Oviella Sipe. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. Enlisting when he was only 17, Mr. Phillips served in the United States Army in WWII in both England and France and upon his return, he worked as an instrument technician for Fina Refinery for more than 30 years. Mr. Phillips is survived by Joan, his wife of 59-1/2 years, a son, Steve Phillips of Port Arthur, two daughters, Gloria Bradley of Mustang, Ok, and Elaine Stark of Austin, TX., eight grand children, and 6 great grand children with one more on the way. A life long fisher of men as well as fisherman, Mr. Phillips continues to inspire those who knew him with his kindness, courage, and commitment to his faith, family, and friends. Visitation will be held at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, 5200 39th Street, Groves, TX from 5:00- 8:00 pm on Friday, 12/26/2014. On Saturday, 12/27/2014, at 10:00 am, a celebration of Mr. Phillips' life will be help at Clayton Thompson Chapel with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur.
