Charles Richard Amburn, 86, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. He was born in Livingston, Texas to Priscilla Merrell Amburn and Henry Amburn on May 15, 1929. Charles was a radio operator in the U. S. Navy, stationed on the USS Princeton CV-37 out of San Diego, CA from May 1, 1950 to Feb. 28, 1954. After the service, he began to play and perform Country and Western Music in San Diego, CA for 40 years. In Oct. 1994, Charles moved to Port Arthur,Texas and married Edith Copeland, who worked as a greeter at Walmart on Twin City Highway for 13 years. He started teaching private guitar lessons in his home for 3 years Survivors include his loving wife, Edith Amburn of Port Arthur, two step-daughters, Joyce Sharif of Groves, Texas and Susan Prevo of San Diego, CA., two sisters, Mary Johnson of Houston, Texas and Betty Pikes of Houston, Texas, two nieces, Karen Stephens of Magnolia, Texas, Pam Ware and her nephew, Tommy Amburn both of Livingston, Texas. A memorial service will be at 3:00 PM Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM until service time on Thursday. Arrangements for cremation are entrusted to Clayton Thomson Funeral Directors in Groves.
