Gilbert Garcia, 84, of Groves, Texas passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
He was born on December 11, 1931 to Pola DeLaRosa Garcia and Luz Garcia in Port Arthur, Texas. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of the area. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Gilbert retired from Texaco as a machinist after 42 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and VFW Post 797.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Luz and David Garcia.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Benia Maria Garcia of Groves, his three daughters, Anali Barriga and husband, Felix of Port Arthur, Jo Carol Menchaca of San Antonio,
Pamela Thorne of Nederland, his three sons, Charles Garcia of Groves, Gilbert Garcia, Jr. and Darryl Garcia.
He is also survived by his sister, Dolores Valdez of San Antonio and his brother, Juan “Johnny” Garcia of Lumberton, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Urbano Saenz Ramirez serving as celebrant. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Nederland.
