Bertha Dolores Ayala Adaway, 74, of Roanoke, Texas and a former resident of Port Arthur passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Baylor Regional Medical Center in Grapevine, Texas.
She was born on November 20, 1941 to Dolores Tapia Ayala and Herminio Ayala in San Antonio, Texas. Bertha graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1959 and Mim’s Beauty School, where she earned her beautician licsense. She was a resident of Port Arthur for most of her life. Bertha worked as a private caretaker for many years and was of the Catholic faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers, Kenneth, Richard, Tony and Arthur Ayala, her brother-in-law, Jim Dattalo and her husband, John Adaway.
Bertha is survived by her two daughters, Dana Valdez Azar of Houston, Lisa Bakker of Port Arthur, her four grandchildren, Candace Johnson and fiancé, Charles Pound, Christopher Azar, Nicole Quezada and Melissa Coats, 11 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her two sisters, Bonnie Dattalo and Irene Berg and husband, David all of Port Arthur, her two brothers, Guadalupe Ayala and wife, Maggie of Bellville, Texas and Ronnie Ayala of Port Arthur along with several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will begin on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Bertha’s life will be at 9:00 AM Saturday, May 7, 2016 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
