Everett “Red” L. Wiley, 85, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Cypress Glen Nursing Home.

He was born on June 11, 1931 to Effie Harbeson Wiley and Douglas Wiley in Briggsdale, Colorado.  Red has been a resident of the area since 1956. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Red joined the Port Arthur Police Department in 1956 and retired in 1990 as a Lieutenant with the Detective Division after 35 years of service. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Nederland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Ralph, Chuck and Cliff Wiley, his wife, Audrey Albers Wiley and his son, Steven Wiley.

Red is survived by his wife, Syble Jeter Wiley of Port Arthur, Texas, his children, Russell Melancon and wife, Gloria of Port Neches, Diane Huebel and husband, Gerald of Groves, Pam Williams and husband, Daryl of Groves, Laurie Wiley of Brenham, Sharon Wiley of Port Arthur, Judy Sutton and companion, Hank Bevil of Port Neches, Sherrill Jeter and wife, Kerry of California, Ted Jeter and wife, B. K. of Beaumont, 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his three sisters, Betty Kramer of Denver, Colorado, Myrna Stoll of Greely, Colorado and Dot Nelson of Alt, Colorado, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A service to honor Red’s life will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, July 15, 2016 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Pastor Francis Schroeder, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
