Alex John Cessac, Jr., 84, of Groves, Texas passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family and his faithful dog, Poker (Pokie).

He was born on February 26, 1932 to Cecile Lyons Cessac and Alex John Cessac, Sr. in Jeanerette, Louisiana. Alex has been a resident of the area for most of his life, graduated from Bishop Byrne High School. He retired from Gulf Oil as a lab technician after 40 years of service. Alex was very active in numerous community events, he and Eli Stelly co-founded the Bellaire Girls Softball League, served as head cook for 5 years at the Hospitality Center in Port Arthur, served as a past president of Nederland Noon Optimist Club. He was a faithful member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Port Arthur. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his success.

Alex was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council # 3491 in Groves as a Fourth Degree Knight, he helped build the original KC hall in Groves.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Dennis Bryan Cessac.

Alex is survived by his loving wife, Romayne Cessac of Groves, his son, Alex J. Cessac III of Galveston, his daughters, Denise Vidrine and husband, Ricky of Groves, Sandy Gereau and husband, Alan of Bridge City, four grandchildren, Heather Gallagher of Las Vegas, Nevada, Amber Cessac of Port Arthur, Payton Gereau of Bridge City and Colton Gereau and wife, Carlie of Bridge City, one great grandson, Devon Guy with one on the way.

Alex is also survived by his sisters, Elsie Buchanan of Groves and Virginia Broussard of Fredericksburg, Texas, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and Pokie.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 4, 2016 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
