“Mama Bear” Mary Luby Jane Savoy, 83, of Groves passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at her home.

She was born on November 28, 1932 to Ida Babineaux Theriot and Odeon Theriot in Kaplan, Louisiana. Luby was a devoted homemaker to her husband, Lolan and they owned and operated Savoy Construction Company. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother better known as "Mama Bear".

Luby has been a resident of the area for 60 years. She was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Groves. Luby was a friend to the Groves Library and volunteered many hours at the library.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Gerald Theriot, her sister, Sable Viator, her son, Steve Savoy, brother in law's Lee John Viator and Roland Bodin, and her husband, Lolan “Papa Bear” Savoy.

Luby is survived by her daughter-in-law, Terry Savoy of Groves , her son, Blayne Savoy and wife, Vanessa of Rowlett, her daughter, Jennifer LeBlanc and husband, Blake of Groves, son, Kevin Savoy of Port Arthur, along with 9 grandchildren; Jimmy Savoy, Clifton Simoneaux and wife, Robin, Brian Simoneaux, Darren Savoy and wife, Lisa, Garrett Savoy and Misty, Joey LeBlanc and, wife Kelly, Jaymie Long and husband, Brian, Meagen Carpenter and husband, John, Desirae Lack and husband, Adam, 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters, Debbie Bates and husband, Terry of Port Arthur, Patsy Bodin of Nederland and her sister-in-law, Gussy Theriot of Port Neches as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Groves with Rev. J. C. Coon, serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Nederland under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
