Damaso E. Sosa, Jr., 82, of Port Arthur passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at his home.
He was born on March 5, 1934 to Jovita Rendon Sosa and Damaso E. Sosa, Sr. in Port Arthur, Texas. Damaso was a lifelong resident of the area. He served in the U. S. Navy and retired as a Master Senior Chief with the Naval Reserves after 41 years. He was a member of Navy Enlisted Reserve Association and the Fleet Reserve Association. Damaso retired from Great Lakes Carbon as production manager after 31 years of service. He was a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters, Josephine Sosa Ramirez, Juanita Vann Mayo and Dora Jimenez, his three brothers, Gustavo Garza, Frank Alvarez and Epifano Sosa.
Damaso is survived by his loving wife, Mary Carmen Sosa of Port Arthur, his two sons, D. E. Sosa III and his wife, Babette of Groves, David Sosa and his wife, Nancy of Nederland, his four grandchildren, Angela Reeves, Adam Sosa, Catherine Sosa and Ryan Sosa.
He is also survived by his sister, Elisa Gonzales of Port Lavaca and his brother, Alfonso Sosa as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
