John H. Currie, 69, of Port Neches, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at home surrounded by family.
He was born on November 18, 1947 to Harriet Elizabeth Spivey Currie & Leonard W. Currie, Jr. in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from Hardin Jefferson High School and Lamar University with a B.S. degree. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a founder of Delta Industrial Service & Supply Company. He was a member and Past Worshipful Master of both Port Arthur Masonic Lodge #1264 A.F. & A.M. and Cosmopolitan Lodge #872 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member and Past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3743 in Port Neches and a former Deacon and active member of Providence Church in Nederland, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Currie of Port Neches, his beloved son Eric Currie and wife Jacqui of Port Neches and grandsons Caleb Currie & Joshua Currie. Other survivors include his Uncle Harold Spivey of Bangs, Texas his sister-in-law Betty Jo Ray of Beaumont, Texas and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 10:00 AM til 11:00 AM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. A Celebration of John’s life will immediately follow at 11:00 AM in the Clayton Thompson Memorial Chapel led by Dr. Clay Faulk and Reverend Beth Faulk of Providence Church. Arrangements for cremation are entrusted to Clayton Thompson Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Building Fund, c/o Providence Church, 1502 N. Twin City Hwy., Nederland, Texas 77627 or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P. O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486 (for Sarcoma Cancer Research).
