Rita Merle (Clay) Miles, 81, of Lake Charles, formerly of Port Arthur, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at West Calcasieu-Cameron Hospital in Sulphur, LA.
Rita was born on November 10, 1935 in Port Arthur, Texas to parents Clara (Domec) and Vincent Clay. She had lived the last seven years in Lake Charles to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Rita was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and she retired from Texaco after 25 plus years of employment in the payroll department. Rita was a loving person, who loved spending time with her family and she will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, Walter Carl Miles; her sons, John Clayton Miles, Mark Reed Miles; her brothers, Russell Clay and Vernon Clay.
Those left to cherish Rita’s memory are her daughter, Carla Jo Miles and Harold (Spook) Stream of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Kimberly Paige McCord, Judson Miles McCord and Christina Boston, Heather Pierce Britain; her great grandchildren, Adilynn Marie McCord, Dayson Miles McCord, Mylie Grace and one on the way, Oliver Grayson McCord. She is also survived by her sister, Sybil Ann (Clay) Brown of Abbeville, LA; her brother in law, Semmie Miles of Winnie; her extended family and care givers, Marie Hartfield, Sherunda Lewis, Audrey Lewis, Deadra Albritton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A 10 AM Christian Burial Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, Texas, with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Celebrant will be Rev. Kevin Badeaux. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
