Betty Jean Ray

Betty Jean Ray, 89, of Winnie,Texas and former resident of Port Acres passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Riceland Medical Center in Winnie.

She was born on May 5, 1928 to her parents, Aldus Ledger and Eva Ferguson Ledger in Beaumont, Texas. Betty was a longtime resident of Port Acres before moving to Winnie 2 years ago to be closer to her family. She was a devoted homemaker in raising her family with her husband, Keith.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Keith Kipling Ray, her two sons, Ronald Earl Ray and Terry Lee Ray.

She is survived by her son, Keith Kipling Ray, Jr. of Port Acres, her three daughters, Susan Kay Ray Sutton and husband, Stephen of Coushatta, LA., Penny Lynette Ray Covel of Vidor, Kelly Rene Ray Trahan and husband, Michael of Winnie, five grandchildren, Keith Kipling Ray III “Skipper” and wife, Jennifer Bellord, Sydney Covel, Taylor James Trahan, Rachel Haynie and husband, Jason, Erica West and husband, Stephen, four great grandchildren, Hannah Haynie, Brice West, Austin West and Alyssa Santiago along with numerous nieces and nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Betty’s life will be at 10:00 AM Friday, September 8, 2017 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Rev. Jeff Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
