Larry John Treibel, 72, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas with his loving family at his side.
He was born on August 6, 1945 to his parents, George and Doris Treibel of Port Arthur, Texas, and has been a lifelong resident of the area. Larry served in the United States Navy and retired from Texaco/Star Enterprise.
Larry was an active member of St. Catherine’s Church in Port Arthur, Texas. His faith and love of the Catholic Church and teachings was his passion where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Altar Server, Acolyte, Sacristan, Minister to shut-ins, Finance Committee President and Money Counter. Larry also prepared the weekly church bulletins, updated the church website, and served on the St. Catherine’s school board.
Larry joined the Knights of Columbus in February of 2006 and served as Warden, Financial Secretary, and District Deputy for the Groves Council #3491. He served as a Faithful Comptroller, Faithful Navigator, and District Marshall for the 4th Degree Santa Maria Assembly. For the Dioceses of Beaumont, he served as an Assistant Diocesan Deputy and Diocesan Deputy. Larry also was a member of the Knights on Bikes.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Paulette Treibel of Port Arthur, Texas; their two sons, Larry Treibel Jr. and wife, Cathy of Humble, Texas; John Treibel and wife, Kimberly of Groves, Texas; his four grandchildren, Emily, Chase, Caleb, and Makayla Treibel; and his brother George Treibel Jr. and wife, Sue Saloomof Pearland, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Derrick Paul Treibel.
Visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 4:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2017 at St. Catherine’s Church in Port Arthur, Texas. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park with full military honors at gravesite provided by the Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group.
Larry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
