Ora Oubre, 88, of Port Arthur, TX, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017.
He was born on November 27, 1928 in Port Arthur, TX to Henry and Nellie Oubre. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and then served in the U.S. Army. He worked for his father building homes in the Port Arthur area and later went to work at DuPont as an instrument man. After his retirement from Dupont, he worked at Triangle Engineers for several years. Ora was a lover of music from an early age and played the steel guitar. He was inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame on May 17, 2008 for Steel and Bass Guitar.
Ora was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 34 years, Margaret Hendon Oubre. He is survived by his son Terry Oubre and daughter, Tracy Oubre, both of Houston. Also step children- Kirk Hendon and wife Kathy of Groves; Suzanne Young and husband David of Houston; Tim Hendon of Austin; 11 grandchildren; Kade Oubre, Gregory Hendon, Troy Hendon, Matthew Hendon, Adam Young, Alex Young, Madelyn Hendon, Mia Hendon, Amanda Hendon, Logan Hendon and Mason Hendon. Ora is also survived by his brothers, Gerald Oubre and wife Pat of Groves and Cecil Oubre of Port Arthur.
A visitation for family and friends will begin at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, followed by the memorial service at 1:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
