Antonio “Tony” Ramirez, Sr., 88, of Nederland passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
He was born on January 13, 1929 to his parents, Fernando Ramirez and Eulilia Collazo Ramirez in Port Arthur, Texas. Tony was a lifelong resident of the area. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII, where he earned a Victory medal. Tony retired from U. S. Steel as a mechanic after 15 years of service. He worked at J & B Automotive for many years. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Tony was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12809 at Our Lady of Guadalupe and a Fourth Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Dick Dowling Assembly. He served as a Past President of the Mexican Heritage Festival in 1994-1995.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Frank Ramirez, Luz Ramirez and Joe Ramirez, his brothers-in-law, Stanley LeBlanc and David Rumsey, his sister-in-law, Lola Ramirez and Mel Ramirez and his loving wife, Geneva Delacruz Ramirez.
Tony is survived by his son, Antonio “Tony” Ramirez, Jr. and his wife, Darla, his granddaughter, Flisha Ramrez, his two sisters, Guadalupe “Lupe” LeBlanc and Rose Rumsey, his brother, Jessie Villarreal and wife, Lenora, his sister-in-law, Jean Ramirez.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 9:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
