Pansy "Granny" Barbay Hammond

July 6, 1921 - April 20, 2018

Pansy Barbay “Granny” Hammond, 96, of Port Arthur, TX; peacefully gained her angel wings on Friday, April 20, 2018.

Pansy, the youngest of six children, was born on July 6, 1921 to proud parents Medora and Wallace Barbay in Port Arthur, TX. She was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was on the Altar Society. She enjoyed watching Thomas Jefferson Yellow Jackets, Dallas Cowboys, Newton Eagles and in her younger years going bowling. She was active in her community with the Lakeview Lioness Club. Pansy was a loving person who will be dearly missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents; love of her life, her husband, Curtis L. Hammond; her brothers, Roy, Robert, Claude and Curtis Barbay; her sister, Mary Kuhl and her son in law, Jerry Ardoin.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Donna Hammond Chatelain and her husband, Chester of Lumberton, Diann Hammond Ardoin of Nederland, Debbie Hammond Pletcher and her husband, John of Nederland. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Kathy Kellas and husband, Steve, Curtis Chatelain, Jeff Ardoin, Darlene Smith, Josh Ardoin and wife, Sarah, Reid Pletcher, Rhiannon Pletcher, Resa Pletcher; nine great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

The family would like to thank the administration and staff at Serenity Assisted Living Care facility in Beaumont for the love, care and hulas that they did for and with her.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, a rosary will be prayed at 6 PM at the funeral home. A 10 AM Christian Burial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves .
