Carolyn Umphrey Coker of Longview, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018, after a lengthy illness.
She was born August 18, 1932, in Port Arthur, Texas to Samuel Brown Umphrey and Grace Gardner Umphrey (she was raised along with her brother Walter, by their beloved Judge Fulton Lee and her mother). She graduated in 1950 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas where she majored in Music. Carolyn was a marvelous musician, gifted as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. She was a charter member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and later became Choirmaster and Organist for Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall, Texas. She worked many years for Ebby Halliday Realtors in Dallas, Texas, before retiring to Longview, Texas.
She is survived by her children, Donna Rosenberry and husband, Bill, Dale Diercks and wife, Sydney, and Diana 'Suggie' Propes and husband, Kelly; her brothers, Walter Umphrey and wife, Sheila, Michael Umphrey; her niece, Paige Logsdon and husband, Darren; her nephews, Bart Umphrey and wife, Laurie, and Nick Umphrey; seven (7) grandchildren, Corey Pruitt and wife, Sarah, Lindsey Kinsey and husband, Matt, Ashlie Gittings and husband, Todd, Allison Seghers and husband, Dave, Austin Propes and wife, Katie, Byron Diercks, Reed Diercks; and eleven (11) great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 3:00 pm, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
